Design Rule #1: When the Concept Breaks, Anatomy Wins.
A common trap for Junior Artists is following the concept "off a cliff." We see this constantly with AI-generated concepts or quic..... .... k photobashes.
The arm is slightly too long. The knees bend backward. The neck insertion is broken.
The Junior Mindset: "I modeled it broken because the concept was broken."
The Senior Mindset: "The concept is a suggestion. Anatomy is the law."
The Fix: If you receive a concept where the limbs look "off," stop looking at the concept. Load up your anatomy reference (PureRef). Locate the bony landmarks (Clavicle, Acromion Process, Iliac Crest). Build the structure correctly first. Then, drape the design of the concept over your correct anatomy.
Never sacrifice structure for a bad drawing. Your job is to make it work in 3D, not to document the mistakes of 2D.
