People are still afraid of AI to taking over our jobs... right?
I think what pushes AI to take the lead is just most of us being too lazy to try something different.
Yesterday, I watched "K-Pop... ...: Demon Hunters," made by Sony Pictures, and the first thing I noticed was the amount of effort the directors put into this movie to push it as far away from any AI model as possible. While I assume this is an 80% alpha version of a better movie that will come after this, the simplicity the directors took with every element in the movie reminded me exactly how AI is struggling with the simplest details.
And I assume that this is the same exact reason why Pixar's "Elio" failed at the box office. While we all grew up watching the art that Pixar makes, I think it was one of the main training paths for AI models to generate 3D characters from, which led to people getting bored by just looking at the same characters and styles.
However, Disney, on the other hand, also started experimenting with new styles to be more simpel, starting all the way bcak with "Raya and the Last Dragon," where you can clearly see how the cloths became very simple. Addding to that, their movie "Wish," where all the characters and the VFX are kind of simple and pushed in a different direction from what Disney used to make.
The struggle that we will face as 3D artists is that people are looking at thousands of new characters created by AI every day. This will make people sick of seeing the same style of art, which will definitely lead to less engagement over time.
