The Concept

I really enjoyed working on this project! It was a great opportunity to explore different pipeline stages while pushing myself to elevate my stylized character design skills.

My process began in ZBrush, blocking out shapes to establish the initial design and aiming to create my most appealing character yet. Once I was happy with the sculpt, I moved over to Autodesk Maya for retopology and UVs to build a solid foundation. From there, I imported the mesh into Marvelous Designer (Clo3D) to block out and model her clothing until the patterns and silhouettes felt right.

Next, I brought everything into Substance Painter to work on the texturing. With the character and garment textures finalized, I returned to Maya for grooming and a basic lighting setup. Once the hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes were dialed in, I built out the rest of the scene, modeling environmental assets, setting up complex shader networks in Arnold, and creating a quick rig with Advanced Skeleton to pose her. Finally, I added background elements to give the piece the depth and atmosphere I was aiming for, set up the final lighting, and rendered out the final image.
